Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance at Virginia Tech?
Any past due balance results in an accounts receivable hold placed on your account, blocking access to the drop/add system, schedule viewing, and transcript requests. A late fee of 10% of the past due balance (max $125 per term) is assessed the day after the payment deadline. If you are dropped from classes for non-payment and later reinstated, you'll also owe a $75 reinstatement fee. Finance charges of 0.50%/month apply to prior-term unpaid balances. At 90 days past due, your account becomes delinquent and may be referred to a collection agency (33⅓% fee) or VA state tax intercept. Contact the Bursar's Office at bursar@vt.edu or 540-231-6277 to discuss repayment options including payment plans.
What holds can prevent me from registering at Virginia Tech?
Registration holds include: Bursar/Accounts Receivable holds (outstanding balance — contact bursar@vt.edu or 540-231-6277), Admissions holds (missing transcripts/test scores), Immunization holds (missing vaccination records — contact Schiffert Health at 540-231-6444), Parking holds (unpaid violations), Honor System holds, Student Conduct holds, and Prerequisite/Registration (RZ) holds. How do I view my account balance and holds at Virginia Tech?
Log in to HokieSPA at hokiespa.vt.edu. Under the HokieSPA Tab, go to Hokie Wallet to see your account balance and payment history. To view Administrative Holds, go to Hokie Wallet → Administrative Holds. Each hold shows the issuing office and contact information to resolve it.
