Hold Policy

Hold blocks: registration, transcripts, diploma Hold threshold notes: UD does not publish a specific dollar threshold for holds. The policy states that the student account must be paid in full before the student registers for a future term. Any outstanding balance triggers a financial hold blocking registration and transcript/diploma release. Source: udel.edu/students/student-financial-services/manage-student-account/ Late fee: $55 flat per monthly billing cycle Late fee recurring: yes Collections notes: Students no longer enrolled (graduated, separated, or withdrawn) with outstanding balances are referred to the Collections Services Unit within the Cashier's Office. Collections Services works with students through their collections process. The University may pursue collection activity and potential legal action; all reasonable collections costs (including attorney fees) are the liability of the student. No specific day trigger or fee percentage is publicly stated. Source: udel.edu/students/student-financial-services/manage-student-account/ Payment plan enrollment fee: $50 Returned payment fee: $25 FRA required: yes FRA notes: SFRA required annually before registration. Failure to complete SFRA results in a hold blocking access to grades, transcripts, and registration. Hold is removed within a few minutes of completing the SFRA. Source: udel.edu/students/student-financial-services/asksfs/ Billing cycle: monthly Refund schedule: No refund of tuition or course fees after the free drop/add period. Free drop/add period = first two weeks of classes for regular semesters; first four days of classes for summer/winter sessions. For medical withdrawals, partial tuition rebates may be available depending on weeks completed. Source: udel.edu/academics/registrar/students/grading-registration/withdrawal/ Non-attendance policy: Non-attendance does not constitute a withdrawal. Students must officially drop/withdraw through UDSIS before the free drop/add period ends to receive a full refund. Failure to officially withdraw results in tuition charges and a grade of W.

University of Delaware student account questions

What happens if I have an unpaid balance at University of Delaware?

UD requires your student account to be paid in full before you can register for a future term. Accounts not financially cleared are subject to holds that prevent future registration and/or release of transcripts and diplomas. If your account becomes delinquent, UD assesses a $55 late fee for each monthly billing cycle it remains unpaid, and collection activity may follow. Students who are no longer enrolled with an outstanding balance are referred to the Collections Services Unit within the Cashier's Office. Contact Student Financial Services at sfs-mail@udel.edu or call 302-831-2126, Monday–Friday 8:30am–4:30pm.

What types of holds can prevent me from registering at UD?

Several hold types can block registration at UD: (1) Financial holds from Student Financial Services for unmet financial obligations from a prior term; (2) SFRA holds if you haven't completed your annual Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (also blocks grades and transcripts); (3) Immunization holds from Student Health Services if required vaccination records haven't been submitted; (4) Disciplinary holds from Community Standards & Conflict Resolution; and (5) Academic probation holds requiring a meeting with your academic advisor before registering (limited to 14 credit hours). Check your holds in UDSIS via My UD (my.udel.edu).
