San Jose State University student account questions

What happens if I don't pay my fees on time at SJSU?

Failure to pay results in a past-due hold on your account that blocks registration for future classes and prevents diploma release. Your schedule may be cancelled if payment is not received by the due date. If your account remains unpaid and is sent to collections, a $20 administrative fee is assessed. To discuss payment options or avoid collections, contact the Bursar's Office at bursar@sjsu.edu or 408-924-1601. You can also enroll in an installment payment plan to prevent collections referral.

What holds can prevent me from registering at SJSU?

Registration holds at SJSU include: Past Due Charges (unpaid balance — contact the Bursar at bursar@sjsu.edu or 408-924-1601), Immunization holds (missing MMR/Hepatitis records — contact Student Health), International Health Insurance holds (F1/J1 students — contact ISSS), Academic Notice Advising holds (required advising meeting), College/Major Advising holds, AlcoholEdu training holds, and Sexual Assault Prevention training holds. Check your holds by logging into MySJSU (one.sjsu.edu), going to the Student Center, and clicking 'Holds' in the left navigation.

How do I view my account balance and holds at SJSU?

Log in to MySJSU through one.sjsu.edu. Your account balance and payment due dates are posted in the Finances section immediately after you register for classes. To view holds, go to the Student Center and click 'Holds' in the left navigation pane. Each hold shows the reason and the department to contact for resolution. Contact the Bursar at bursar@sjsu.edu or 408-924-1601 for financial holds.

Does SJSU offer a payment plan for tuition?

Yes — SJSU's Installment Payment Plan (IPP) lets enrolled students split tuition charges into 3 or 4 monthly installments for a $35 processing fee (non-refundable, included in the first installment). A minimum $1,000 in eligible charges is required. The plan is available for fall and spring semesters. If you are no longer enrolled and have a past-due balance, a Non-Enrolled IPP is also available, which can prevent your account from being sent to a collection agency (though it will not remove existing holds). Enroll through MySJSU.
