South Dakota State University student account questions

What happens if I have an unpaid balance at SDSU?

If your account has an AR (accounts receivable) balance of $250 or more when it becomes delinquent (after the semester payment due date), the Cashier's Office will immediately place a hold on your account preventing you from registering, adding, or dropping classes. The hold will not be removed until your balance is $0 โ€” setting up a payment plan after the due date will NOT clear the hold. If the debt remains unpaid, SDSU will attempt collection over 180 days, then refer the account to a collection agency or the South Dakota Obligation Recovery Center. You will be responsible for all collection fees, attorney fees, and court costs. Contact the Cashier's Office at studentbills@sdstate.edu or 605-688-6116 to discuss your options.

How do I avoid an accounts receivable hold at SDSU?

Pay your balance in full by the semester payment due date (Fall 2026: Sept. 4, 2026; Spring 2027: Jan. 21, 2027) OR enroll in the payment plan via SDePay before the due date. The payment plan has a $45 enrollment fee per semester. Important: if you enroll in the plan after the due date, it will NOT remove an existing AR hold โ€” the hold lifts only when your balance reaches $0. You can pay online through SDePay (accessible via your MyState portal) or contact the Cashier's Office at studentbills@sdstate.edu or 605-688-6116.

Where can I view my balance and holds at SDSU?

Log in to your MyState portal (mystate.sdstate.edu) and select the SDePay link under Student Account Self Service on your dashboard. There you can view your current balance, statement history, and any holds on your account. You will receive an email to your Jacks email (@jacks.sdstate.edu) when a new billing statement is available. No paper statements are mailed. If you need an updated statement, email studentbills@sdstate.edu.

Common questions about Email Cheat Code at South Dakota State University

Does Email Cheat Code work with South Dakota State University email?

Yes. South Dakota State University uses Microsoft 365 (Outlook) for student email. Email Cheat Code connects to your @sdstate.edu account with read-only access and sends you SMS alerts when critical emails arrive - financial aid deadlines, registration holds, bursar notices, and academic notifications.

If you're among the first students at your school to connect, your IT department may need to approve the app first - we can help with that.

What emails does Email Cheat Code monitor at South Dakota State University?

We monitor your South Dakota State University inbox for the emails that actually matter - financial aid deadlines, FAFSA verification requests, registration holds, tuition payment reminders, academic standing notices, and advisor communications. Newsletters, club emails, and campus-wide blasts are filtered out. You only get a text when something needs your attention.

Is my South Dakota State University email account safe with Email Cheat Code?

Yes. We connect through your provider's official OAuth sign-in - the same process you'd use to connect any trusted app. We can only read your emails, never send, delete, or modify them.

Email content is never stored - only a short alert summary is saved. Our security was independently verified through a CASA Tier 2 audit by TAC Security for the App Defense Alliance. You can revoke access anytime from your account settings.
