Santa Barbara City College student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance at SBCC?
If you fail to pay your student account bill or any amount owed to SBCC, SBCC will place a financial hold on your account, preventing you from registering for future classes or receiving your diploma. Unpaid balances may also be referred to a collection agency (First Financial Resources, Inc., 800-747-2302). Payment is due within 7 calendar days of registration, and if not paid, you may be dropped for non-payment before the semester starts. Once you pay in full, the hold releases automatically within 20-30 minutes. Contact the Cashier's Office at cashiers@sbcc.edu or 805-730-4197 for assistance.
What holds can prevent me from registering at SBCC?
Several types of holds can restrict registration at SBCC: (1) Outstanding Balance/Financial hold — unpaid balance owed; contact Cashier's Office at cashiers@sbcc.edu or 805-730-4197. (2) Advising hold — required counseling appointment not completed; contact Counseling Center at 805-730-4085. (3) Dean's hold — contact Associate Dean of Student Support Services at 805-730-4078. (4) Orientation hold — contact Outreach and Orientation at 805-730-4450. (5) Assessment hold — contact Assessment Center at 805-730-4149. (6) Registrar/Admissions holds — contact Admissions & Records at admissions@sbcc.edu or 805-730-4300. View all active holds in your Student Dashboard at banner.sbcc.edu.
Where can I see my SBCC account balance and active holds?
Log in to your campus portal at my.sbcc.edu, then click 'Student' then 'My Class Schedule and Bill' to view your balance. To view holds, log in to the Student Dashboard at banner.sbcc.edu/registration/ssb/prepareRegistration. SBCC does not mail bills — you are responsible for monitoring your own account. Check your campus email regularly for financial aid notices and drop-for-nonpayment alerts.
Does SBCC offer a payment plan for tuition?
Yes. SBCC offers an interest-free monthly payment plan through Nelnet for Fall and Spring semesters only (not Summer). You must have a balance of at least $276 to enroll. There is a non-refundable setup fee of $30. To enroll: log in to my.sbcc.edu, go to 'Class Registration and Schedule Card,' then select 'Payment Plan Registration.' A failed payment results in a $30 fee, and the plan may be cancelled after two failed attempts. For Nelnet portal questions, call Nelnet at 1-800-609-8056. For your SBCC account, email cashiers@sbcc.edu.
