Why Portland State University students miss critical emails
Your inbox is full of noise. Even if you check it every day, that one financial aid deadline or registration hold notice is easy to miss in the flood.
When most students depend on financial aid, a missed verification deadline or disbursement notice can mean a dropped semester.

Portland State University student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance from a prior term at PSU?
Any prior-term balance greater than $0.00 triggers a registration hold at Portland State University. If you also miss the 2nd or 3rd installment of the PSU Payment Plan, holds will block registration and transcripts. If an account remains unpaid for 90 days, PSU sends two warning letters and a final notice before referring the account to an outside collection agency. Contact Student Financial Services at studentfinancialservices@pdx.edu or 503-725-3440 to resolve holds or make payment arrangements.
What holds can prevent me from registering at PSU?
Several hold types can block registration at Portland State: Financial Holds (any prior-term balance, missed Payment Plan installment, or current-term balance over $250 for restricted courses 4 weeks in), Measles Vaccination Requirement Hold, Academic Warning Hold (GPA below 2.00 — must complete Academic Success Plan Workshop or meet with your advisor), First-Year Mandatory Advising Hold (freshmen and transfer students must meet with their advisor in their first two terms), and Admissions Missing Item Hold. Check your active holds on your myPSU Dashboard and follow the resolution instructions for each hold.
Where can I check my holds and account balance at PSU?
Log in to myPSU at my.pdx.edu. Active holds appear in red on your Dashboard — click 'View Hold Details' to see each hold type, what it blocks, when it was activated, and contact information for resolving it. Your account balance and billing statements are under the Finances tab.
How does the PSU Payment Plan work and what are the late fees?
The PSU Payment Plan divides your term balance into 3 equal installments due on the 6th of each month during the term. Voluntary enrollment is free and opens once tuition posts. If you don't enroll or pay in full by the first due date, you're automatically enrolled and charged a $100 late fee. Each additional missed installment triggers another $100 late fee. Pre-registration for future classes is cancelled if your balance is not paid by the 3rd installment. Contact Student Financial Services at studentfinancialservices@pdx.edu or 503-725-3440 with questions.
