University of Notre Dame student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance at Notre Dame?
If you fail to settle your student account balance in a timely manner, Notre Dame will place a hold on your account that prevents class selection for future terms, enrollment, diploma awarding, and bookstore charging privileges. No specific dollar threshold is published — the hold may be placed for any outstanding balance. Contact the Office of Student Accounts at stdacct@nd.edu or (574) 631-7113 (Mon–Fri, 8am–5pm ET) to discuss your circumstances.
When are tuition payments due at Notre Dame?
The Fall 2026 semester billing statement becomes available in IRISHPAY on July 9, 2026, with payment due August 12, 2026. The Spring 2027 statement is available December 8, 2026, with payment due January 4, 2027. Additional monthly statements for personal charges (bookstore, health services, etc.) are due upon receipt. Log in via InsideND (inside.nd.edu) to access IRISHPAY.
Does Notre Dame offer a payment plan?
Yes. Notre Dame offers the interest-free IRISHPAY Monthly Payment Plan through Nelnet. You need a minimum balance of $500 per semester to qualify. The annual and fall-only plan opens in mid-April; the spring-only plan opens in mid-October. Payments are automatically debited from a U.S. checking or savings account monthly. Only one plan per student per year. Contact Student Accounts at stdacct@nd.edu or (574) 631-7113 with questions.
What if I need to leave Notre Dame mid-semester?
Undergraduate students must contact the Time Away Office to complete a Separation eForm — do not leave campus before obtaining required approvals from your Dean and a Care and Wellness Consultant, or you risk receiving failing grades. Tuition is refunded on a day-based prorated schedule: 100% before the first day of classes, declining roughly 2% per day, reaching 0% after day 43 (the 60% point). Housing and food are prorated throughout the semester. Contact Student Accounts at stdacct@nd.edu to understand financial impact.
