Northern Arizona University student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance at NAU?
If your NAU account balance is 14 days or more past due, a financial hold is placed on your account. This hold prevents you from registering for classes, receiving refunds, or obtaining your diploma or certificate of degree. If the balance reaches 30 days past due, monthly late fees apply on a tiered schedule ($5 to $100 per month depending on the balance). If your account is referred to a collection agency or the AZ Attorney General, an additional fee of up to 40% of the outstanding balance is added. Contact Student & Departmental Account Services (SDAS) at SDAS@nau.edu or 928-523-3122 to discuss your options.
What holds can prevent me from registering at NAU?
Holds that can prevent registration at NAU include financial holds (account balance 14+ days past due), advising holds, and other service indicators placed by university departments. Log in to LOUIE at peoplesoft.nau.edu and check the 'Holds' section of your Student Center to see all active holds and which department placed each one. To clear a financial hold, contact SDAS at SDAS@nau.edu or 928-523-3122. For all other holds, contact the department listed on the hold.
Where do I check my balance and pay my bill at NAU?
Log in to your LOUIE account at peoplesoft.nau.edu. Under the 'Financial Account' tile, you can view your current balance, eBill, and make a payment. NAU uses electronic billing (e-bill) as its official billing method — you are responsible for checking and paying by the due date regardless of whether you open the bill. You can also sign up for direct deposit for refunds and enroll in the payment plan directly in LOUIE. For questions, contact SDAS at SDAS@nau.edu or 928-523-3122, or visit the Student Service Center (M-F 9AM-5PM) at 928-523-9501.
Does NAU offer a tuition payment plan?
Yes. NAU offers an interest-free 3-payment plan for fall and spring semesters with a $75 non-refundable enrollment fee. Enroll in LOUIE by clicking the 'Financial Account' tile, then 'Enroll in a Payment Plan.' Payments are due the 15th of each month (Fall: Aug-Oct; Spring: Jan-Mar). If you miss the tuition payment deadline without enrolling, your tuition is automatically deferred and a $150 non-refundable fee is charged. Summer classes are dropped for non-payment — no automatic deferral. Call SDAS at 928-523-3122 for help.
