Michigan Technological University student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance at Michigan Tech?
Any outstanding balance on your Michigan Tech account will result in an Accounts Receivable hold being placed on your account. This hold prevents you from registering for future terms, receiving grades and/or transcripts, and other university services. The hold remains until your balance is paid in full. If the account is more than 120 days past due without any contact about payment, Michigan Tech will refer the account to an outside collection agency, which may result in additional collection fees and a negative impact on your credit history. Contact Student Billing at student-billing@mtu.edu or 906-487-2622 to discuss your options.
What holds can prevent me from registering at Michigan Tech?
Registration at Michigan Tech can be blocked by the following holds (called 'Registration Stoppers'): (1) Accounts Receivable Hold — placed for past-due tuition, debts to MTU departments, past-due Perkins or TECHAID Loans, missing exit interviews, or unpaid rent; (2) Insurance Unpaid Hold — placed by the Student Insurance Office for unpaid health insurance; (3) Disciplinary Hold — placed by the Dean of Students Office or the Wahtera Center for Student Success. To resolve a hold, contact the associated office. Check your holds by logging in to Experience at mtu.edu/experience.
Where can I check my student account balance and holds at Michigan Tech?
Log in to your student portal — called Experience — at mtu.edu/experience. From the Billing and Payments card, click 'Payments Page – Student Bill/Confirm Enrollment' and then 'View/Pay Student Bill' to see your account balance, active holds, and make payments. Bills are emailed to students when available each semester.
What payment plan options are available at Michigan Tech?
Michigan Tech offers semester installment plans to spread out tuition costs. For Fall/Spring: a 5-payment plan ($50 enrollment fee; first payment due one month before billing due date) or a 4-payment plan ($65 enrollment fee; first payment due on billing due date). For Summer: a 3-payment plan ($50 enrollment fee). Financial aid cannot be applied toward payment plan payments. Enroll by completing the contract on your Student Bill through Experience. Contact Student Billing at student-billing@mtu.edu or 906-487-2622 for help.
