What happens if I don't pay my bill by the due date at Carleton?
Payment must be received before the start of each term (Fall due Aug 15, Winter due Dec 15, Spring due Mar 15). If your account is not paid before the term starts, a hold will be placed on your account blocking Registration (including Drop/Add) and Transcript Requests. Carleton does not allow outstanding balances — the full amount must be paid each term. Contact Student Accounts at studentaccounts@carleton.edu or 507-222-4843 to make arrangements.
What holds can prevent me from registering at Carleton College?
An unpaid balance on your student account will place a hold blocking Registration (including Drop/Add) and Transcript Requests. You must pay your balance in full or make payment arrangements with Student Accounts (studentaccounts@carleton.edu) before the hold will be lifted. Additional holds may exist for incomplete financial aid, registrar issues, or health records — check your Workday account to see any active holds.
What is Carleton's tuition refund policy if I withdraw?
If you withdraw before the term starts, you receive a 100% refund. If you withdraw within the first 10 days of classes (by 5pm on day 10), you receive a 25% tuition refund. If you leave due to illness between the first day and the Monday of mid-term break, you receive a 50% tuition refund. After those deadlines, no tuition refund is available. Housing charges are not refunded after the term starts. The food service plan is refunded for remaining weeks. Students suspended, dismissed, or expelled receive no refund.
