Brown University student account questions

What happens if I have an unpaid balance at Brown?

Brown places financial holds based on balance thresholds: balances over $500 prevent diploma issuance, over $1,000 block pre-registration and bookstore charging, and over $5,000 can prevent continued enrollment. A late payment charge of 1.5% per month (18% annually) is assessed on unpaid balances. Accounts may be sent to external collection agencies with additional fees. Contact Student Financial Services at sfs@brown.edu or 401-863-1000.

What holds can prevent me from registering at Brown?

Two types of holds can block registration: (1) Financial holds - a past due balance of $1,000 or more blocks pre-registration, and $5,000+ prevents continued enrollment; (2) SFRA hold - you must complete the Student Financial Responsibility Agreement (SFRA) annually via Banner Self Service at selfservice.brown.edu before you can register. Check Courses@Brown for active holds. Contact SFS at sfs@brown.edu for financial holds.
