Amherst College student account questions
What happens if I have an unpaid balance at Amherst College?
Failure to clear an open balance can result in inability to register for classes, participate in housing selection, return to campus the following semester, and holds on your grades and diploma. Amherst does not publish specific dollar thresholds — any outstanding balance can trigger these holds. Contact Student Accounts at studentaccounts@amherst.edu or 413-542-2811 to discuss your situation.
What holds can prevent me from registering at Amherst College?
Registration holds at Amherst include: Accounts Receivable Balance (unpaid tuition/fees — contact Student Accounts at 413-542-2811 or studentaccounts@amherst.edu), Student Loan Delinquent (contact Controller), Financial Aid File Incomplete (contact Financial Aid, finaid@amherst.edu), Health Service File Incomplete (contact Keefe Health Center), Grades Incomplete or Missing Course Evaluation (contact Registrar), Major Declaration Required (contact Registrar), and various transcript holds. Log in to Workday to see your active holds and the office responsible for each.
When is my tuition bill due and where do I pay it?
Amherst bills by semester. The Fall bill posts in Workday around July 15 and is due August 15. The Spring bill posts around December 15 and is due January 15. Pay online via ACH (free) or credit/debit card (2.85% fee) through the Amherst payment portal at amherst.edu/go/payment, or enroll in a Nelnet 5-month installment plan through Workday. Email notifications are sent to students and any authorized third-party users when statements are posted.
